Wildcat update

As spring ball and high school ball are getting started Wildcats are popping up all over the place. Just an update on some of the Wildcats. Taylor and Haley were joined this year by Maddi and Mackenzie on the West Coast Ghost "A" team, Hillary made the Cal Haze "A" team, Saja and Kaiya are playing with the Norcal Impact "A" team. First year Wildcat Mackenzie K. made Varsity as a freshman at Santa Rosa. Congratulations to all of the girls, their years of hard work is really showing on the field.

2 Wildcats make Elite Fall Ball Team

Congrats to 2 of the 2010 Wildcat player, Taylor & Haley both attended tryouts for one of the areas Elite Fall Ball "A" Teams. The Norcal Assault/ West Coast Ghost squad. Both of them made the team at the 14-Under level. Practices have already started with tournaments for the next 2-3 months. All of that summer hard work with all of the Wildcats helped make it possible for Taylor & Haley to make the team. I will keep the site updated with tournament times, locations and highlights from both girls, of which there will of course be many from those two.

Fairfield wrap and seasons end

Another tournament in the books, the 5th and final time on the dirt for the 2010 Wildcats Fastpitch squad. Fairfield brought a familiar foe and 2 new teams including an "A" team for the Wildcats to battle. As always the 2010 Wildcats would give the fans what they came for, competitive, close, real softball games. Bats seemed to continue their quiet trend from the Cloverdale tournament with only Taylor and Hillary getting hits in game 1, though the pitching would keep the game close. Taylor would only give up 1 real hit in the game. A momentary lapse on defense offered the opposition just enough to squeak out the win, but not without another international tie breaker extra inning game. The Wildcats would put the winning run on third but not be able to get Linzey in during the bottom of the last. Another great pitching performance in game 2 saw Taylor only give up 3 hits in the 6 inning game. A tough foul ball off of the finger knocked lead off hitter Mackenzie out of the game with a badly injured finger. Again just a couple of plays, bounces, or throws put us behind by just 1 run. Another hard fought game with the Wildcats scoring late on a double by Katrina, and a single by Linzey showing the bottom of the order has something to offer at the plate. Saja would start game 3 and pitch beautifully, mixing fastballs and change ups and starting to work the corners as well. 1 hit allowed. Offense would see a few pitches to hit and make the most of their chances with hits spread well up and down the order. Sunday morning saw costly defensive miscues again put the Cats down 3-0 after the top of the first. They of course would battle back with Taylor stealing home for the first run, Haley doubling in 2 more to tie the game. Again falling behind by 2 in the bottom of the sixth. Saja would walk, Mackenzie would beat out a single and Taylor would send a 2 run double to left center to tie the game. 2 tough strikeouts with the winning run on third would bring the international tie breaker back into play. The Wildcats would fall short in extra innings and leave Fairfield much to early.

The season ended like it started with the girls giving everything that they had. Learning how to win and learning how to lose, the 2010 Wildcats grew as individuals and as a team. Good times and bad times, highlights and low lights. A lot to look forward to as the Wildcats move forward. If was truly my pleasure to coach the Wildcats this summer, thank you for allowing the girls to play with us and for supporting them all summer long. Cloverdale wrap up

A exciting & drama filled weekend in Cloverdale came to an all together to early end on Sunday morning. The girls fought hard all weekend playing some real softball games. The Wildcats only allowed 8 total runs all weekend. Much improved defense was displayed on Saturday at SS and 3B. Pitching was again fantastic as Taylor and Saja both saw time in the circle. Saja would start game 2 on Saturday and throw a complete game No-hitter netting her a much deserved game ball. Haley continued to dominate behind the plate with a pair of fantastic sliding grabs of foul pop ups. As they have proved throughout this summer season, the Wildcats will put on exciting games, they will never quit right down to the final swing in wins or losses. The girls came into Cloverdale swinging hot bats after a great RP tournament. In Cloverdale the bats kept the contact but with less fire. Balls seemed to always find a defender ready to make a play. Less aggressive swings and some far to patient eyes would catch up to the ladies at the plate. Of course in the later innings of games as always they would fight back. A bounce or two different on a massive infield on Saturday and who knows what may have happened. Saturday's defense was better than it has been all year. Sunday mornings game against a familiar opponent saw just one game blip on the defense radar screen with a couple of tough plays in one inning that would eventually just be too much to overcome. This tournament marked the first time this summer that the Wildcats have left Sunday after game 1. I guess there is a first for everything. The ladies do not plan to see about the second. A few highlights throughout the weekend. Hillary continued to swing a hot bat, moving up to the 3 spot in the lineup. Line drives for 6 hits on the weekend. Taylor would find a little bit of space with the bat totalling 5 hits over the weekend. Mackenzie stepped up at SS on Saturday with at least 10 plays. Lacy had one of the best catches you will ever see, a full on dive on the dirt to snare a pop up saving at least 2 runs bringing the dugout and crowd to there feet. Saja threw a complete game 5 inning no-hitter on Saturday. On to Fairfield. Quick turnaround with Fairfield this weekend. Details coming soon.

The final tournament schedule has been updated as of yesterday. As discussed on Sunday our July 30th-Aug 1st tournament will now be in Cloverdale. As of right now no game schedule or bracket has been made available, we expect that early next week. By popular demand we will continue our summer tournament schedule the following week Aug 7th-8th in Fairfield. Great practice Tuesday, looking forward to Thursday.

Saturday hitting practice will happen if at least 5 girls can attend. 10am at Analy JV. Please let the coaches know.

Rohnert Park tournament wrap up

A hard fought three days in Rohnert Park in the Rebels Classic saw the Wildcats best finish of the year. The Rebel Classic draws the best teams from the area and the Wildcats proved they belonged right there finishing third overall losing in the Semi Finals on Sunday afternoon. The girls started hot on Friday night against the San Anselmo Storm with a big win. Saturday saw two games, a tough loss against the Rebels after taking a 4-1 lead in the third inning. Responding in a big way, the Wildcats would face a good squad from Berkeley who had beaten us twice last week in Benicia. The Wildcats would find themselves down by 1 in the final inning, as the visitor we would score 2 in the top of the inning to take the lead and then defense would shut the door 1-2-3 in the bottom of the last. For Friday and Saturdays work the Wildcats would earn the # 2 seed in the Sunday bracket. A Sunday morning game against the Fire n Ice gave the girls a chance to advance to the Semi Finals. They would do just that with a convincing win as the bats continued the assault. Semi Finals brought the girls to where they want to be, in the final four in the tournament. Make no mistake they deserved to be in that Final Four. A strong start against a good Hackers squad had the Wildcats fired up. In a Semi Final game against another solid team it only takes a couple of bad bounces or close plays to make it tough. One tough inning on defense put the Wildcats in a tough spot. Proving once again that you cannot teach heart, the girls refused to quit battling to the last out. Hitting through the lineup in the last inning putting runs up on the board. As the time limit expired on the Wildcats effort no heads were down. A great 3 days of softball, and for that a well deserved 3rd Place finish for the ladies. The team got better with each and every game, every at bat, every chance on D. Bats were on the ball all weekend. Defense much improved from Benicia, made more plays. The Wildcats will continue to practice, continue to work hard and get better. Soft hands and grounders will be the focus this week and next as we move towards Cloverdale July 30-Aug 1. With all tournaments there were some truly outstanding performances worthy of highlight:

Mackenzie and Taylor would continue to swing hot bats both finishing the weekend 10-15 at the plate, scoring almost half of the Wildcats runs.
Hillary would break out the heavy lumber and swing the bat great 8-12 on the weekend batting clean up.
Linzey started to see the ball better netting 5 hits over the tournament.
On Defense Maddi played almost flawless at 2B all weekend, and Haley continued her stellar play at catcher without any backup.

Rohnert Park tournament schedule

Benicia weekend wrap up

A fun weekend in Benicia wrapped up Sunday afternoon with the Wildcats fighting hard until the time limit closed it out. Another tournament with a Saturday win and more importantly a Sunday morning win against Vallejo who had beaten us the day before. The Wildcat heart in unquestioned as each and every game we find ourselves down on the scoreboard. The girls will battle back and continue to work hard regardless of the score. With every game the Wildcats learn a little more about themselves, who they are as a team, and where they need to work to get to the next level. A tale of 2 teams told the story of Sunday as Saturday's non swinging bats stayed home and allowed the Wildcats bats to stride confidently to the plate. Pitching on both days by both Wildcat pitchers was crisp and accurate. Defense however as a TEAM was not good. Routine plays are just not getting made with any level of consistency. We need to tighten up the infield and outfield if we expect to go deeper on Sunday's. So far this tournament season the toughest opponent that the Wildcats have faced is themselves. The weekend was a successful one and was not without many highlights. A leadoff experiment with Mackenzie would be big as she would reach base safely in every game going 7-11 on the weekend at the plate. Taylor moving to the 2 spot would swing a hot bat netting 6 hits over the 2 days. Saja would continue to swing a solid bat, shaking off a slow start on Saturday to net 5 hits in the final 3 games. Hillary started to see pitches to hit on Sunday gaining some confidence at the plate with 4 Sunday singles. Gillian once again hustles each time she puts the bat on the ball 5 hits on the weekend. The right side of the defense was solid, Saja continues to excel at 1st base and Maddi (in her first tournament) jumped in with both feet and made some plays at 2nd. Pitching by Taylor and Saja was great. Both of them did their job, throwing strikes, not walking batters, getting ground balls in the infield and lazy pop ups to the outfield. The weekends highlight was undoubtedly the second game of Saturday. The Wildcats would take on a talented San Mateo team. Once again saturday quiet bats and bad defense put the girls behind the eight ball. Never seeming to put a rally together or string a couple of good plays in a row brought the girls up to bat in the bottom of the last inning down 3-1. Bottom of the order up, 2 quick outs, but proving that you cannot teach heart they didn't quit. First time travel catcher Kaiya would single, Mackenzie would beat out an infield hit and Taylor would work a walk to load the bases with 2 outs bringing Haley up to the plate. With the fastest players on the team on second and first the stage was set and Haley didn't disappoint, a first pitch fastball was sent deep to left field well over the left fielders head. Kaiya scores, Mackenzie scores from second and Taylor comes all the way around from first for the winning run. A 2 out 3 run walk off double for Haley with her dad in the scorekeepers booth. A close second to that highlight was Sunday morning against Vallejo, again defense put the Wildcats down 3-0 in the first inning. Then 5-2 in the third. Chipping away at the lead with base hits and great baserunning evened the score as the later inning approached. With the score tied at 5-5 Lacy would notch a single and advance to second on a throw just by firstbase. Maddi would knock her over with a single. Taylor would single in the lead run up the middle, and Maddi would steal home for a 2 run lead. On defense for the last inning against the 2-3-4-5 hitters a Vallejo team that had just beaten us the day before. A sharp hit ball to Hillary at third was fielded cleanly for a quick out. A liner up the middle snatched up by Taylor for the second out. The 4 hitter sent a ball deep to center that Shale ran 30 yards for and just missed a spectacular stretching catch. With a runner on second and 2 outs Taylor would close it out at the plate striking out the games final hitter looking with a nasty curveball allowing the Wildcats some retribution for a tough Saturday loss to the Hurricanes. With thoughts of what might have been in their minds the girls would head home after a hard fought game sunday afternoon. Enjoy the wins, remember the losses, and never be satisfied.
Another learning experience, with a quick turn around this time. The girls will be right back at it this weekend in Rohnert Park. Details and schedule coming soon.

First tournament of the 2010 Wildcats season is in the books. Great start to the summer. 3-2 on the tournament. Friday night the Wildcats struggled a bit to find their confidence as travel ball rookies got their first taste of tournament play. A hard fought close loss to the Rebels would lead the Wildcat to Saturday morning. Confidence in themselves on Saturday would be the key to a successful day. 2 dominant wins vs. the Fire & Ice and the Panthers. Stellar pitching, crisp defense, and superb hitting. The Wildcats would earn themselves a # 2 seed and a later Sunday morning start. Taylor would again dominate in the circle against the Dragons en route to the second shutout in a row. A date once again with the Victory. One of the greatest games ever played took place in front of a huge crowd. Back and forth, back and forth, in the end Wildcat defensive miscues would be too much to overcome. No quit in the Wildcats saw them battle back from 3 down with 1 out in the bottom of the sixth to tie it, and one of many controversial calls by the field umpire at first base cost the Wildcats the winning run. Extra innings and the international tie breaker rule would come next. Fighting to the end with runners on base, but a good play by the Victory second baseman would close out tournament 1 for the Wildcats. 3-2 on the weekend posting the only 2 shutouts of the tournament. Haley ended 10-14 at the plate, Saja 10-16, Lacy 9-14, and Shale 7-14 would all step up and do damage. Some work to do for a couple weeks before a return to the field in Benicia.

The Wildcats will head to Petaluma for their first game tonight at 6:45 down 3 players as Katrina and Maddi are enjoying their early summer break and Allison is nursing an injury suffered in practice. 9 Wildcats take 2nd in All Star tournament

9 of the 12 Wildcats finished 2nd in this past weekends All Star tournament. Two wins on Saturday gave the team a bye in the morning on Sunday. A shutout win vs. Sonoma 8-0 and a convincing win vs. Middletown with first time starter Saja in the circle. Sunday first game brought a familiar opponent in Mark West. A convincing win vs. a talented Mark West squad put the Wildcats in the Championship game Sunday afternoon. The girls fought hard for the full 7 innings against a fired up talented Santa Rosa squad. Unforced errors on basic plays put the girls down early. A middle inning rally saw the girls take the lead in the middle innings. They could not hold on as bats fell silent and a few key mistakes crippled their effort. 2nd place trophies for all after only 3 weeks of practice together. A few of the girls shined brightly in the tournament, Hillary was 6-10 at the plate and played SS for all 4 games. Taylor was 7-10 at the plate and pitched 3 complete games going 2-1 over the weekend. Haley went 6-11 at the plate, caught almost 4 complete games. Shale was 5-10 at the plate and played 3rd base all four games and made all of the plays in limited chances. Mackenzie warmed up after a slow start on Saturday to finish 5-12 at the plate and controlled both CF and 2nd base. Back to the practice field Tuesday with the full Wildcat squad to prepare for this weekend in Petaluma.

2010 Wildcat invitations made official

All of the 2010 invitations have been delivered. Here is the current Wildcat 2010 information. Practices will begin Thursday 5/27 at Analy JV 5pm. Practices will be held on Tuesday & Thursday for the duration of our tournament season. The 2010 Wildcats plan on starting tournament play in Petaluma June 18-20th. A potential tournament list was handed out at Sunday's tryout. Contact Jolene or myself if you need a list. Later tournaments are being decided on and discussed now with everyone involved. Our summer plan is to attend 4 or 5 tournaments. Last season we played in 4. Our 4 tournament fee is $ 300 per girl. 5 tournaments would be $ 350. Fee includes all tournament fees, certifications, insurance, practice field use, and uniforms. 2010 coaching staff is as follows: Ronn Christy, Jolene Coon, Jason Weaver, & Kevin Soriano. Thank you to everyone who came out on Sunday to the final Wildcats tryout. We had more girls tryout than ever before. After a long discussion between the 4 coaches the final roster and invitations were sent out. The 2010 Wildcats roster is listed below, an email has been sent to everyone individually. Fees and tournament info will follow shortly. Each selected player will receive a phone call from the coaches as well with more detailed info on practices, fees, and scheduling. All Wildcat hopefuls are required to attend at least 1 tryout date with both dates being encouraged. The 2010 Wildcat season will again take place in the 12-Under division. Final roster will be decided shortly after Sunday's tryout. 2010 Wildcat invitations will go out, with a tournament schedule to follow after roster decisions.

Wildcat May 1st tryout wrap up

The 2010 Wildcats fastpitch season got off to a great start on Saturday May 1st. The first tryout for the 2010 12-Under summer travel season was fantastic. 12 Wilcat hopefuls were out early and ready to show their skills. All of the girls played great. I would love to say that it was better than we had expected but honestly we expected a lot from the girls and than is exactly what we got. The 2010 Wildcats have the look of a strong squad. Great work ladies, keep up the hard work.

The second 2010 Wildcat tryout date is Sunday May 16th at Analy JV, 9:30-11:30. All players are encouraged to attend both tryout dates is possible with at least one being a requirement.

The West County Wildcats 12-Under travel girls Fastpitch softball team will be holding tryouts for the upcoming summer tournament season. There will be 2 tryout dates. Girls are encouraged to try to attend both tryout dates if possible. All players new and returning must attend at least one tryout date. Sunday May 2nd 9:30 am- 11:30 am at Analy JV field in Sebastopol is the first tryout. The second is scheduled for Sunday May 16th 9:30 am- 11:30 am also at Analy JV. We are a 12-Under team so any girl 12 or younger on Jan 1st of 2010 is encouraged to attend. Players are required to wear athletic attire, wear cleats, glove and bring water. The summer travel season is a fast paced, focused, and competitive season. Wildcat hopefuls rejoice, 2 tryout dates and times will be confirmed within the week. Our goal this year is to have the tryouts as EARLY as possible to allow us to play in tournaments in June. The target date for tryout # 1 is Sunday May 2nd with tryout # 2 to follow within 2 weeks. Everyone is encouraged to attend one or both of the tryouts. This season, like last year will be a 12-Under B team. All players age 12 on Jan 1, 2010 are age eligible.

Returning players are required to tryout again. Tryouts are run like practice like with stretching, running, throwing to warm up. Infield work, outfield, and hitting both cage and on field. Individual pitcher and catcher work is incorporated as well.

The 2010 season for the West County Wildcats will be here sooner than you think. With West County Rec ball kicking off next week for the 12-Unders there is no time like the present to start thinking about summer travel ball. The 2009 Wildcats team will lose some key players this season due to age move ups clearing the way for a new crop of Wildcats. This season hopefully we can get tryouts a bit earlier possibly mid May so that we can play in some of the many June tournaments. The 2010 West County Wildcats will once again be a "B" 12-Under fastpitch squad. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to tryout girls from 10-Under included last season we had 2 10-Under girls make the team and ended up as starters. Practices will be 2-3 times a week for the duration of our tournament schedule. Meet the team night for West County rec ball is Wednesday the 24th in the Analy cafeteria there will be a flier with details on the Wildcats available there. There will also be a small presentation pertaining to this seasons Wildcats team.

The inagrual season of the West County Wildcats girls fastpitch travel season has officially come to an end. Back to back 3rd place finishes in quality travel tournaments is a pretty solid job. A lot of nervousness and hesitancy about the increased competition at the outset of the Wildcat season was washed away by the end. The 2009 Wildcats learned that if they worked together and applied themselves, that they could compete with and beat anyone. They also learned that if they allowed doubt and played scared that they wouldn't be able to compete. The girls would work hard at practice, for most of them, giving away a big portion of their summer for the team. Tuesday's and Thursday's they would battle the heat of the summer to get better, and get better they did. Arm strength, defense, speed, baserunning, bunting, hitting were improved by leaps and bounds. An amazing change from the first tournament in Benicia to the last in Hayward was obvious to all who watched the 2009 Wildcats. A few of the players established themselves as players that are as good as any out there on any travel team. Others who hadn't even played 12-Under rec ball stepped in and contributed and now know what is out there. Not just the players were bettered from the experience, the coaches were as well. Everyone involved players, coaches and parents hopefully took something positive from the experience. Each one of the girls had their lows and their highs and will be better for it. They all are veterans now, and should act and play like it from now on. They know what it takes to win what it feels like, they also know what is like to lose and they don't like it. The 2009 West County Wildcats paved the way for next year and years to come of West County fastpitch softball. Thank you to all the Wildcats, see you all next season.

Hayward tournament wrap up

The final tournament of the 2009 season for the Wildcats would be the farthest distance and an overnight stay for most. An 8 am start on Saturday morning in Hayward with games spread out throughout the day tested the Wildcats focus. With each tournament the girls played in improvement was obvious and the final one was no different. Responding well to difficult situations is key in any sport, the Wildcats would use a tough early saturday loss to fire themselves up to play 2 of the best games of the season in back to back fashion. Temperatures approaching 100 degrees at 12:30 when the Wildcats took the field for a short notice double header. Bats would come alive throughout the lineup for the most part. Defense was solid, making the easy outs and mixing in a few tough ones. Catching was superb as it has been for the last 2 tournaments. Pitching was crisp and hard from start to finish. Sunday morning brought another new team for the Wildcats to face. The final sunday was the site of the best game played of the season be the girls. A 9-0, 5 inning shut out where the girls put everything together at the plate and in the field. All of the hard work in practice showed up as the Wildcats dominated from the first pitch ( a Big Mac double to right ) to the last ( Taylor striking out her 9th batter of the game ) A second straight third place finish for the first year travel team from west county. Some fantastic bordering on ridiculous performances were had in Hayward. Mackenzie Kearns would move up to the lead off spot and thrive, finishing the weekend 10-13 at the plate including a 4-4 performance in game 4. She would also play great defense at first throughout the weekend netting an unassisted double play and not letting anything past her glove. Haley Millerick once again played the entire weekend at the catcher position. Her play this weekend was stellar, squeezing the strikes, framing pitches for the umps to get a better look, and using her voice to command the defense to do what they are supposed to on every single play. At the plate Haley was 7-12 in the clean up spot. Hailey Elmore would battle the heat at second base for the entire weekend making the most of almost every ball hit to her with outs at the bags. She is always dangerous at the plate due to the speed 5-10 with 3 walks including 2 bunt singles gave her a chance to annoy the other teams on the bases with stolen bases at every chance. Taylor Christy once again was the only Wildcat in the circle for all 5 games, over 400 pitches to some top level teams. She was able to block out the cheers from the other squads and use her pitches, hit corners, and lead her team. Hitting in the 3 spot she found a way to go 8-10 with 2 walks. These are first year travel players playing to this level in after only 6 weeks of travel practice against high level pitching and hitting for the most part. Hopefully some pictures from the weekend will come my way soon so I can put them up for all to see.

I made a mistake on the location of the field for games 2 & 3. It is not at the field on W. Tennyson. Games 2 & 3 are at the Alden E. Oliver sports park 2580 Eden Park Pl. It is about 5 minutes south of the field for game 1. I will have the correct directions to game 2 on Saturday morning at the game. Wildcats,

Our game schedule is official for this weekend in Hayward. Our first game is at Standley field at 8 am Saturday morning. Standley field is located at 27182 Patrick Ave. Hayward. The girls need to be at the field in uniform by 6:45 am. We have a long day ahead of us on Saturday with some breaks between games. Our second and third game are both at Mt. Eden park. Second game at 12:30 and third at 3:30. Eden park is located at 2451 W. Tennyson in Hayward. Gold uniforms of course on Saturday with gold socks. A couple of things with the Hayward fields. There is a gate fee at all fields, $ 3.00 for adults, $ 2.00 for kids 5-12. Players and (4) coaches are free. Also there is no coolers, ice chests, or food allowed. There is a full service snack bar available. Each team is allowed 1 ice chest for the girls that will need to be marked at entry. These were rules that they gave us, not our rules. Sunday's schedule will of course be determined by Saturday play. Everyone is scheduled to be there this weekend so the Wildcats will be at full strength.

Practice today 5-7 at Analy JV. Hitting practice, last one before the tournament. Last practice as the Wildcats. Lets make this tournament the most special.

Vallejo tournament wrap up

The Vallejo tournament was another step forward for the Wildcats. Another weekend of firsts for the girls. First win on Sunday and first trophy. Third place in the tournament with only 13 games under their belt is pretty solid. Three games on Saturday in the Vallejo heat and two on Sunday with only 9 girls. Once again the story of two different teams. The team that comes to play ready and focused can play and beat anyone. The other unfocused and flat team has a tough time. An up and down Saturday saw the Wildcats get a big win to kick off the tournament. Bats were alive in the morning as they smashed out 16 hits while not allowing 1 on defense. Saja saw an inning in the circle striking out the side to close out a no hitter. After a break the second and third game saw a different Wildcats team take the field and the batters box. Very little fire and drive led to tough at bats for almost everyone. Pitching and catching was solid though. Defensive intensity was not there in games 2 & 3. Sunday morning would see the black uniforms out in force as a determined Wildcats team would take the field. A dominating performance in the first game saw a full 7 inning complete game for Taylor. She would strike out 12 in the game and get 2 hits at the plate. The Wildcats would play a complete game on Sunday morning, racking up 13 hits. Bases were stolen and runs were scored. Defense was tight. Katrina made a fantastic catch to save a run in right field. Mac E Chan would continue her great play at 3B with put outs on grounders and line drive to third. Hailey E would get 2 hits including beating out a bunt for a single. The game was stopped for 25 minutes due to a major leg injury to an opposing player on a play at the plate. When the game restarted the Wildcats would not let up. In the bottom of the 7th Taylor and Haley M would combine to strike out the side with the final out coming on a caught fouled third strike. Great game, first Sunday win. The second game on Sunday would see the Wildcats jump out early with Hailey E would single and steal her way to third and score on another Taylor hit. Shaky defense in the outfield in the first led to runs. There was a moment in the dugout where it was tough, the Wildcats were down and might have given in to the heat and pressure. They chose not to this time, and to fight. Taylor and Haley M show good leadership and support for the team. They would work hard to keep the girls focused. Bats came alive as Taylor C would single, Big Mac would put a fastball deep into right center for a double, and Haley M would also double to right center. Saja would fight hard at the plate as well with productive run scoring outs. Haley M would play as good as possible behind the plate. Stopping every ball, framing pitches, throwing out stealing runners, and tagging runners out at home while playing in her 5th game of the weekend behind the plate.Time was not on our side as the one opponent you cannot beat, the clock, would catch up to the Wildcats. Fantastic effort and determination. A few of the highlights were Taylor C going 7-11 at the plate without striking out once, as well as throwing over 400 pitches. Haley M stellar behind the plate and getting 5 hits. Hailey E would knock out 4 hits and play solid defense, showing good speed to the ball on grounders and stealing bases every chance she got. Saja would fight hard at the plate as well getting in with 4 hits of her own. Mac E Chan would chip in with 3 hits and more importantly play great at third base throwing out runners from third to first. Remember NO SUBSTITUTES, NO REST FOR THE ENTIRE WEEKEND. Once again the girls took a huge step forward and showed that they have it in them to get it down, they have it in them to dig deep and fight. The 9 girls who fought hard all weekend would bring home some hardware. A third place finish and the first Wildcat trophy. Congratulations to the Wildcats.

Vallejo tournament schedule

The Wildcats Vallejo tournament schedule was given out to the girls after practice yesterday. Here it is as well. Saturday Aug. 15th all games at North Vallejo Field on Fairgrounds Dr. just north of 6 Flags. We are Team # 3. First game at 9:30 am, second game at 2:00 pm, third game at 6:30 pm. The girls need to be at the field in uniform no later than 8:15 am on Saturday.

Practice yesterday was the best practice we have had all season. The girls came ready to play for start to finish. Crisp base running, lead offs, and steals started it off. Speed, speed and more speed on the bases. Lots of throwing short, middle, and long toss led to strong infield drills. Outfielding was worked as a group with much improved range being shown. Catchers continue to improve, pitching was right on. Thursday hit day is just around the corner with Vallejo on the horizon.

Tournament week is here, actually back to back tournament weeks. This weekend in Vallejo and next in Vacaville. Practice will be taken up a notch as the Wildcats prepare for a hot weekend of softball. Key players will return to practice this week, hopefully giving the Wildcats a full squad this afternoon. Defense today with positions still up for grabs. The Wildcats will go to Vallejo without Linzey and Gillian for sure, so everyone will need to be prepared for the prospect of very little rest if any during the weekend. Some minor coaching tasks will be addressed this week looking forward to Vallejo. Drink plenty of water, take it easy this week. We will work hard this afternoon and on Thursday so be ready.

Two weeks until Vallejo

With the Novato tournament gone the Wildcats set their sights on Vallejo in 2 weeks. Quickly back to work on Tuesday with defense from start to finish, with a lot of running mixed in. Some areas of concern from the weekend were addressed. Aggressive leads and 1st and 2nd, and sliding into and through the bag. Harder hit ground balls at 2nd and SS forced the girls to stay down and field through the ball or balls would get through. Outfielders continue to improve moving to the ball and giving on the catch. Catchers got right back to work in the batting cage stopping balls and popping up to the throwing position. With only 7 Wildcats at practice each girl got at least 150 throws from short, middle and long distances. The girls were able to beat their best throwing time around the bases, they now have gotten the ball from H to 1 to 2 to 3 to H in 7.5 secs. Only 3 more practices until Vallejo. Hitting on thursday, lots of swings, lots of line drives, lots of bunts.

The Wildcats second tournament was again a success. A Friday night game in Novato against a talented San Anselmo team would see the Wildcats play their best most complete game of the year. Coming together in the black uniforms making plays at every position. Belting out 14 hits at the plate. Consistent strong pitching led the way to a convincing win to start only the second tournament for the girls on a winning note. Haley M made one of the best catches you will ever see in foul territory behind third base crashing into the opposing teams dugout fence and holding on. Katrina was quick to a liner to right and fired to first for the out. Saja continued her solid outfield play squeezing two fly balls to left field. Taylor C would move up to the lead off spot to try to get the game started and continued her abuse of travel ball pitching. She would also end the game striking out the 2 & 3 hitters in the San Anselmo lineup looking. Saturday the Wildcats would have to fight, quiet bats and unusual miscues on defense made things difficult. Saja would see her first action in the circle for an inning striking out 1 and holding her own even when it was tough. Proving that she is a tough out Gillian would work pitchers for 5 walks to be on base every time. Haley M would be called on to catch every inning without the injured Rene. A game Mackenzie E would prove her worth playing CF, 1B, 3B, & 2B as well as hitting in both the 2 & 3 spot in the lineup. She would knock out 3 hits and work the count for walks as well. A different team showed up on Saturday, they weren't the team that dominated on Friday night. The Wildcats would need to find the team from Friday night to be able to compete on Sunday. Good news, those girls showed up. A different sense of drive and fire came with the Wildcats on Sunday morning. Playing against a veteran Novato team coming off of winning the Rohnert Park tournament the Wildcats would have to play solid to compete. The infield was tight as Isis finally got a chance to field a few, Friday nights Big Mac returned to stretch for outs at 1st. Taylor O would find the ball on a towering pop up to end an inning in CF. Playing against a tough Novato team and with some questionable calls from the men in blue was just a little too much for the travel rookie Wildcats. A 5-2 loss for those of you who where there doesn't do the girls justice, they battled to the end getting dirty and taking a little something from the Novato girls all the way. A lot was learned over the last 3 days in Novato. We learned once again that if we come determined and ready to win with it in our minds that we can we can play with and beat any team. We also learned that if we are lazy and question ourselves as a unit the game will be very, very tough. The first year Wildcats continue to lay what is hopefully the foundation for great teams and great players in the future. Like always the future is now for the current group of Wildcats, Tuesday practice is just around the corner. Only 4 practices until the girls go into battle again in Vallejo.

The official schedule for the wildcats Novato tournament is available, here it is:

We are team # 7. Our first game is Friday evening at 6:00 pm at Gary Gates field. The girls will wear their black uniforms with zebra socks. They need to be at the field in uniform by 4:45 pm. Saturday we play 2 games the first at 11:30 am and the second at 3:00 pm. The girls will wear gold uniforms with gold/black socks on Saturday. Saturday's games are at the same field. They need to be there Saturday by 10:15 in uniform. The tournament is pool play on friday and saturday for seeding and sunday championship play single elimination. Game times are very strict just like Benicia as are our listed arrival times. Game length is no new inning after 75 minutes.

Novato tournament week

The 2nd tournament for the Wildcats is this weekend in Novato. As of this morning there wasn't a schedule of games posted. Jolene was informed when she signed us up that we will have a game on Friday night. We should know in the next day or so our schedule. The Novato Heat actually has a pretty nice website if you check it out at www.novatoheat.com It has the teams in the tournament. Looks like an 8 team tournament. 4 game guarantee so pool play on friday/saturday with championship play on sunday. Field locations are on that site as well. This is tournament week so practice time is critical for positons and lineup. Be focused and ready to work on Tuesday for defense.

thursday hit day practice

The wildcats thursday's are spent hitting during practice. Yesterday with only 6 Wildcats on the field bats were swinging. Tee stations, soft toss, and in the batting cage. Focusing on quick hands through the hitting zone for some others pivoting, throwing the hips, and squishing the bug. New drills like throwing 2 different colored whiffle balls in the air and calling out one color to hit forced the girls focus. Tom tossed balls from behind the girls getting them to pick up the ball as it came into view then quick hands to contact. Batting practice off of coach pitching focusing on line drive hitting, driving the ball through the infield. After at least 300 swings each, the girls got the pleasure of hitting live pitching as Taylor took the circle with Haley behind the plate. At 7:00, more than 300 swings in, the 6 Wildcats that worked for 2 hours on hitting were ready to go home. Back to work Tuesday, defense day. Next week is tournament week, practices will take a slight change in tempo and once again allow the coaches to see who will play where and who will bat where in Novato friday, saturday, and sunday.

Tuesday defense practice was focused and crisp. The catchers continue to develop and excel with all of the extra position work with Bobbi. Outfielders were covering a lot more ground and making plays during station work. They also got to dive and catch balls using the slide pad. The long awaited return of Isis gives the Wildcats infield a charge and a voice leading into the upcoming Novato tournament. Taylor threw hard in the circle hitting spots with Hailey framing pitches to give the ump (Kevin) a better look. Saja came in to face 6 batters and did well, putting the ball in the strike zone giving the infield a chance to make plays. Down three Wildcats players on Tuesday gave the 9 that were there more reps on defense and I am sure some tired legs today. Hitting practice on thursday.

After only 3 weeks of tues. thurs. practices the wildcats would embark on their first tournament as a team. It would be a road trip to Benica, Ca. A massive 14 team 12-Under played at a beautiful 4 field complex. The weather couldn't have been better and with a 12:30 first game the Wildcats would have a little time to work out the jitters. Going into the tournament short handed would force infield starters to move around to slightly unfamiliar postions and get it done throughout the 3 game Saturday. Much was found out by the Wildcats coaches as the games unfolded. Bats were alive from start to finish. Pitching was crisp and hard. The much improved catchers came to play. The Wildcats would get a taste of victory in Game 2 against the Mark West Wild squeezing out 8 runs and closing it down in the bottom of the fifth. Everyone starred at some point over the weekend. Every Wildcats hitter got in on the act with at least one base hit. Rene had 5 hits, Taylor, Big Mac, and Haley each had 4. Both Rene and Haley battled off hand injuries behind the plate giving Taylor the confidence that they would keep the ball in front of them and keep that third strike in the mit. Taylor would go all 4 games over the weekend in the circle. Fine defensive plays by Hailey at shortstop and Gillian in right field kept the Wildcats in each and every game. With only 6 real practices under theirs belts, the Wildcats were not intimidated one bit by anything in Benicia. They were never outplayed, never out of a game, and never quit. We learned a lot over the weekend as players and as coaches. The most important thing that we were as good or BETTER than any of the teams that we saw.
